Difficult Vascular Access in Children (DVAC)

This is a fun, interactive course aiming to encourage vein-preserving and time-saving techniques to improve outcomes and satisfaction for patients and carers. Feedback from previous DVAC courses has said the course has positively changed peoples’ practice. The course has previously run in Belfast and is being run for the first time on the UK mainland.

We aim to improve knowledge and confidence surrounding intravenous (IV) access decision making and insertion techniques. We use a consultant-led, interactive and hands-on approach to achieve our objectives, plus pre-course material.

Topics covered

We will teach Ultrasound-guided IV access, intraosseous (IO) & midline insertion, difficult cannulation, finger & heel-prick sampling as well as troubleshooting central vascular access devices.

Audience

Clinicians with an interest in improving the child’s experience around IV access.
