Progress+ is here! Cathryn and Christine talk us through the new training curriculum

It has been years in the making, and has engaged countless consultant paediatricians, trainees, College staff and - especially - children and young people.

But we're now delighted to launch our new two-level training programme, Progress+! In this short video, two key leaders in its development chat about why this moment is so very important in paediatrics.

Dr Cathryn Chadwick is RCPCH Vice President for Training and Assessment and Dr Christine Pierce is RCPCH Officer for Training and Quality. And they - like many paediatricians around the country - are getting ready to celebrate Progress+!

The development and implementation of Progress+ - which is our response to the General Medical Council's Shape of training review - has been a labour of love.

Over the past years, College staff and a whole host of clinicians, children and young people have guided and fed into the process. We give huge thanks to the GMC for their wisdom and insight as they helped us develop and refine our documentation.

There's real flexibility that trainees can follow, paths that are tailored to the interests and the needs of children as well.

We do hope you and your teams can join in our celebrations. We've been using the colour pink for our curriculum for a while now, so we're looking out for all things rosy,*  whether it's pink cakes for your tea break or a team photo with pink accessories and banners. Take a look and feel free to post your photos on  over the coming weeks.

And don't forget - whether you're about to start on or transition to Progress+ now or in early September, or are supporting with and working with colleagues on this training pathway - we have plenty of resources and are happy to answer your questions. So do bookmark our Progress+ hub.
