Integrated care systems in England - consultation response

In early 2021 we responded to NHS England and Improvement’s consultation on proposals to develop integrated care systems and their ways of working.

Background

NHS England and Improvement issued a describing the way ahead for integrated care systems in the next few years. The report detailed how ICS will work with place-based providers, and the roles for provider collaboratives from April 2021. It also outlined changes to give ICS a bigger role in specialised commissioning.

Our response

We responded in support of establishing a statutory basis for ICS. We also argued for strategic leadership at the system level for children and young people’s health with mandatory roles in ICS governance arrangements.

On changes to specialised commissioning, we expect where the demand for specialised paediatric services is insufficient in a single ICS or region to permit efficient and effective commissioning arrangements that services will continue to be commissioned at a national level.

We respond to a wide range of consultations to ensure that the College’s position, and ultimately children’s health, is represented. Members can get involved in current consultations by contacting the Health Policy team: health.policy@rcpch.ac.uk
