What is this role?
MRCPCH clinical examiners are responsible for assessing the performance of exam candidates on their exam day.
Examiners actively ensure that exams are run to a high standard by adhering to MRCPCH regulations, marking in line with guidelines and providing candidates with clear and concise feedback during the marking process.
Being an examiner is an ongoing journey of learning and development. Examiners must attend at least two exam days per year, undertake regular training and willingly receive feedback to enhance learning.
The MRCPCH exam is widely regarded for its rigorous standards and exceptional reputation. By serving as an examiner, I feel privileged to play a role in upholding these standards and ensuring that candidates are well-prepared to deliver excellent care to children worldwide.
Eligibility: Knowledge, skills and experience required
- Full registration with medical regulator
- Currently be clinically active
- Be in a substantive consultant post (or equivalent) for at least 2 years
- Demonstrate awareness of training standard required of candidates
- Experience and understanding of areas covered by RCPCH exams
- OSCE or practical exam experience
- Teaching and training experience
- Demonstrate compliance with equality, diversity and inclusion training
- Have MRCPCH (or equivalent) qualification
- Be an RCPCH member (of any level) and in good standing with the RCPCH
- Evidence the ability to take on and respond positively to feedback
What does RCPCH provide?
Before you become a full examiner, we provide comprehensive training. This includes online learning modules, an online interactive training led by experienced MRCPCH clinical examiner faculty and one-to-one mentoring from a senior examiner at a live clinical exam.
Once you become an examiner, we provide you regular opportunities to attend exams in your your country. Senior examiners host training sessions to facilitate your ongoing learning and development. Senior faculty observe examiners to provide advice, support and personalised feedback.
Being an MRCPH examiner allows me to support the growth of future paediatricians, ensuring high standards of care. - The Examiner Review Panel will review your application and if accepted, you will become an examiner elect
- Complete online learning modules (in RCPCH Learning)
- Participate in an online interactive training
- Attend a live exam where you will have one-to-one mentoring by a senior examiner
- The Examiner Review Panel will review your mentor assessment and if accepted you will become an examiner and can examine independently
