In 2025, it cannot be right that children, the youngest and most vulnerable group in society, are the least protected from physical assault. This joint briefing calls on MPs to support an amendment to the Children’s Wellbeing bill to give children equal protection from assault.
Over 20 leading organisations working in child health, child protection and safeguarding, human rights, mental health, youth advocacy, social care and more have jointly developed this briefing for parliamentarians to support our shared call to remove the “reasonable punishment” defence from law in England.
If your organisation is interested in signing up to support the campaign, contact public.affairs@rcpch.ac.uk. You can learn more about RCPCH’s campaign to give every child in the UK equal protection from assault on our campaign page.
