Professor Paul Dimitri BSc, MBChB, FRCPCH, PhD was appointed as Vice President for Science and Research in December 2021, and took office in March 2022.
Paul currently works at Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust as Professor of Child Health, Consultant in Paediatric Endocrinology and Director of Research & Innovation. Paul trained at the University of St Andrews, Scotland in Medical Science where he was awarded a distinction in pathology, and qualified in Medicine at the University of Manchester in 1997. He moved to Sheffield in 1998 to take up training in Paediatrics and then Paediatric Endocrinology. During his time as a trainee he was Chair of the Trainees Committee at the RCPCH and then the Academy of the Medical Royal Colleges. Following the completion of his PhD, he was appointed as a Consultant in Paediatric Endocrinology in 2009.
Paul is currently the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) National Children’s Specialty Lead, the Director of the and the Clinical Director for the . Paul has led on the development and implementation of national technology networks that specifically focus on the development and adoption of technology for paediatrics and child health through private and public sector collaboration. Since 2014, these networks have leveraged around £15 million to ensure that children and young people receive the best and most advanced healthcare.
In his role of Vice President for Science and Research at the RCPCH, Paul is committed to increasing funding for research in paediatrics, supporting wider research training opportunities for paediatric trainees and consultants, driving the development of technology specifically for children’s healthcare in collaboration with industry partners, and ensuring the paediatric science and research is prioritised by national funding bodies.
