Introduction

It hardly seems like any time since we were all hearing Progress+ was coming. Now it's August 2024 and we are already a year in!

Hear how we have been bedding in Progress+ as we troubleshoot issues, listen to your feedback and make some important changes.

But after this first year, we're also ready to celebrate! So, whether you are a trainee or a trainer, we invite you to grab our 'Progress+ posters - which you can see below and download at the bottom of this page - and get your colleagues together for a celebration of all we've achieved together.

A learning curve for us, but we're listening to you

We launched Progress+, our new two-level training programme, in August 2023. This past year hasn’t been without its challenges, and as we tried to build the curriculum on to the ePortfolio, future proofing it for any further changes down the line, we were concerned to hear reports from trainees and trainers that it wasn’t working the way we had hoped.

It has been a steep learning curve for all of us here in the Training & Quality team, and we have all become amateur detectives on all things risr (which powers ePortfolio), looking deeply into mapping, reporting and forms until our eyes turn square! We've since formed an ePortfolio user group to investigate and address the issues that have been raised with us. as we continually strive to make this platform a useful tool for paediatric trainees to log their evidence.

Change isn’t always easy, and sometimes significant curveballs are thrown. Through perseverance and by speaking to many of you about your concerns, we hope we have arrived at a point where the ePortfolio is working as it should, while we continue to monitor and deal with issues as they arise.

Meanwhile, we are also gathering feedback from you, our stakeholders, on your lived experiences of Progress+ so we can make tweaks to ensure it is the most robust and flexible curriculum for our trainees to achieve their capabilities.

Dr Cathryn Chadwick, RCPCH VP for Assessment and Training, has reflected on the flexibility that Progress+ offers and how this has been put into practice over the past year.

We work together for the same goals and so raise a toast!

There is an Irish proverb Ní neart go cur le Chéile which translates to ‘there is strength in unity’, or ‘we are better together’. As we reach this milestone of one year of Progress+, this proverb resonates deeply. We all share the same goal: to improve the health outcomes for children and young people. And this first year of Progress+ encapsulates this perfectly. Working together to achieve our aims: that in itself is cause for celebration!

So, raise a toast and join us in saying ³§±ôá¾±²Ô³Ù±ð (good health) to many more years of the Progress+ curriculum and the collaborative working that accompanies it.

Progress+ celebration

Some of the RCPCH staff and stakeholders got together to celebrate a year of Progress+. We are incredibly grateful for all our stakeholder support and look forward to making this year even better!
