RCPCH President responds to the Queen's Speech

RCPCH President Dr Camilla Kingdon responds to the UK Government's legislative agenda for the next session of Parliament.

In response to the Queen's Speech, Dr Camilla Kingdon, RCPCH President said:

The Queen’s Speech showed signs of promise for the progress of child health and wellbeing across the UK.

We are pleased there was specific mention of ensuring all children get the best start in life, and wait to see what this will mean in practice.

It’s good news for children and young people that the Government has committed to introducing the Health and Care Bill; integration of services is critical to improving child health outcomes. We’re also pleased to see a commitment to introducing the ban on junk food advertising on television before 9pm and a total ban online.

As ever, we look forward to seeing the detail of the legislation announced today and will continue to make the voices of children, young people and paediatricians heard in the corridors of power throughout this session of Parliament.
