Medusa - NHS Injectable Medicines Guide

The NHS Injectable Medicines Guide, commonly referred to as Medusa, is an online resource accessible via the internet or through an organisation’s intranet. Medusa provides guidance on the preparation and administration of injectable medicines in adult and paediatric clinical areas. It also serves as a reference source for organisations developing an injectable medicines administration policy for local use.

Medusa features over 400 monographs for intravenous (IV) medicines, excluding cytotoxic agents, and includes both licensed and unlicensed medicines. The information aims to cover all generic IV medicines currently under contract to the NHS in the UK.

Monographs are developed and updated by NHS hospital pharmacists, supported by an editorial team based at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, and the paediatric content is checked by specialist pharmacists. Each monograph undergoes an additional review by external pharmacists, mostly from UK Medicines Information (UKMI) centres, and is sent to manufacturers for comments.

RCPCH endorses the use of Medusa and its monographs for the preparation and administration of injectable medicines in paediatrics.
