Mental Health Advisory Committee

This committee is responsible for providing expert advice on the College’s work on children and young people’s mental health in the context of paediatric services. It works to influence policy, respond to consultation documents and guidance and guide the College’s work and national advocacy on children and young people’s mental health. The committee was set up in April 2024 and reports into the Policy and Advocacy Executive.

  • Develops the College’s approach and priorities on children and young people’s mental health
  • Promotes the ethos that ‘mental health is everyone’s business’ – raising the profile of mental health work across the College and advocating for the incorporation of the mental health agenda across RCPCH strategies and programmes of work
  • Develops or offers opinion and advice on policy, education and training, workforce competencies and models of care in relation to child mental health, to Officers and members of the RCPCH Executive Committee and Council. Identifies, champions and advocates for children’s mental health in each nation’s child health agenda
  • Advises on national policy and service development in relation to children’s mental health, with a focus on joint working across mental-physical health, paediatric services, and inpatient care
  • Advises on development of service standards to ensure mental health considerations are appropriately considered
